Recorder Player and Winner of the 2012 Stepping Stone
I am honoured to be artistic ambassador for the 2014 Canadian Music Competition and Stepping Stone, two events that are near and dear to me. I myself have had fantastic moments in the Competition and still have vivid memories of the first time I took part in 1998. How good it is to see that the CMC, in its 56th edition, is still expertly run by classical music lovers who have at heart the emergence of exceptional musical talents.
The Canadian Music Competition is not a mere contest where contenders are compared against each other. It’s a unique occasion for the public to discover and encourage young developing musicians and emerging professionals. For participants, it’s a unique springboard and an opportunity to surpass oneself and to share one’s artistic talents. In preparing for such a competition we learn about ourselves; we gain stage experience and we enjoy stimulating encounters.
Dear participants, I hope this experience will help you grow. That is how you will come out as true winners. Make the most of the comments and advice of the adjudicators, who are there for you. When you perform, don’t worry about the stakes. Take the opportunity simply to present the fruit of your labour, to share your ideas and your artistic vision. Strive for living, spontaneous performances. Surprise us; surprise yourself!
Enjoy the Competition!
