A Word from the Executive and Artistic Director

Hope is a creative force. Since September, the team has redoubled its efforts to prepare a new version of the Competition that will allow us to maintain our vision: Enriching Canada’s cultural vitality by supporting young and exceptional musicians.

In the unusual and still uncertain context of the pandemic, despite the hope of a vaccine being available in the coming months, our priority is to establish clear guidelines to inform our participants beforehand of the conditions that must be met in order for auditions to take place. Building on our experience in 2020, we are ready to minimize risks under all contingencies, while focusing on the fundamental aspects of the Competition: promoting excellence, perseverance, commitment, and determination in young Canadian musicians.

Since September, our dealings with performance halls have allowed us to remain very positive about the possibility of planning for in-person auditions next spring. And thanks to the protocols we have established to comply with public health regulations in the various provinces, we will be in a position to ensure the on-site safety of our participants and judges. In view of this, the auditions will have to take place behind closed doors, without public access, unfortunately.

The 2021 edition is thereby focused on young musicians, giving them the tools they need to motivate them and guide them towards excellence. We are fortunate to be able to count on several partners that share our vision and our goal of ensuring the safety of all participants while fostering the emergence of talent.
