The Junior Program is intended for young musicians, 7 to 15 years old, who have not previously registered for the Canadian Music Competition and who wish to experience the CMC.

With this program, the junior candidates are allowed to register for the first round only, and present the repertoire required for their instrument and age category. They will receive comments and marks from the two adjudicators of the regional round, but they will not proceed to the Provincial Final, even if they obtain the minimum mark required (80%).

The Junior Program is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Young musicians may register as junior candidates no more than two times. Candidates who have previously participated in the Canadian Music Competition are not eligible for the Junior Program. It is however not necessary to have participated in the Junior Program to enter the regular program.

12 years old and under

  • piano
  • recorder
  • strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass)

15 years old and under

  • chamber music (ensemble of 2 to 5 members)
  • guitar
  • harp
  • piano 4 hands/piano-duo
  • winds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium)

All rules of the Canadian Music Competition equally apply to the Junior Program.
