Canadian Music Competition 2020: Important Update

In recent days, our governments announced an extension of the preventive measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The Canadian Music Competition is contributing to this unprecedented public health effort and acting in accordance with the guidelines issued by our civilian authorities. Consequently, the 2020 National Final, Stepping Stone, and Gala Concert, scheduled to take place in Quebec City in June, are being postponed to a later date. Details will be announced as soon as possible in the near future.

Please note that the Competition’s management is closely monitoring the situation and that additional updates will be issued as the state of affairs evolves in the coming days.

We would like to reiterate to our entire community the extent to which the current context is affecting many non-profit organizations—including the CMC—which are now experiencing a period of uncertainty. We emphasize that this is an exceptional situation, and we ask that you show solidarity with the Canadian cultural sector. This gathering, which celebrates classical music, remains a great pedagogical opportunity for all young musicians in Canada. The CMC team is expending great energy in order to pursue its mission in support of the next generation, in this context in which everyone must adapt.

We thank all of the Competition’s volunteers, our partners, parents, teachers, and all of the candidates for their invaluable cooperation during this unprecedented situation.
