The Calgary Chapter is henceforth taking Edmonton participants under its wing

The National Office of the Canadian Music Competition would like to announce that the Calgary Chapter is henceforth taking Edmonton participants under its wing.

On October 10, 2018, the Competition’s general management was informed that “the Canadian Music Competition Central Alberta Committee (CMCCAC) voted in favour of severing all ties with the Canadian Music Competition at its 2018 Annual General Meeting.” The CMCCAC is now in the process of changing the name of the society, which is no longer recognized as a chapter of CMC.

The Canadian Music Competition and the Calgary Chapter run by the Southern Alberta Committee is making sure that no potential candidate will be penalized by this decision. Registrations are therefore still open to Edmonton musicians, who will be able to register to participate in Calgary, and possibly in Edmonton, at no additional cost. A limited number of candidates from Edmonton will be heard at the 2019 National Audition. If needed, the National Office will create a waiting list for additional candidates. In the event that the CMC is unable to hear candidates of Edmonton officially registered or on the waiting list, the CMC will refund their registration fees in full.

Registrations are open until . Following the Canada-wide National Audition, selected candidates will meet in Calgary for the National Final and the Stepping Stone. The winners’ Gala Concert will take place on July 4, 2019, at the Rozsa Centre of the University of Calgary, with the Calgary Philharmonic. The Competition will award more than $100,000 in scholarships.
