The CMC loses one of its founders: Claude Deschamps 1936-2013

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Claude Deschamps, co-founder and director from 1958 to 1989 of the Festival de musique du Québec, which became the Canadian Music Competition in 1971. We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Deschamps. He leaves behind four daughters, Nathalie, Isabo, Élise and Geneviève, their mother pianist Lorraine Prieur, and six grandchildren, Benjamin, Laetitia, Raphaëlle, Sabrina, Nicolas and Viviane.

At the helm of the CMC for over 30 years, Mr. Deschamps’ vision has shaped the Competition into what it is today. He conceived of it as a competition that was more about participation and personal challenge and growth than it was about competitiveness. These values are still guiding the Canadian Music Competition today.
