The 2011 Canadian Music Competition winners revealed!

The 2011 National Final results are now available. See the Grand Prize winners, the scholarship winners, and the detailed results.

CMC 2011 Grand Prizes

Grand Prize in the 19 to 30 years old category (tie)

  • Kirsten MacKinnon, Soprano, Burnaby (British Columbia)
    $2,000 Scholarship (Jeunesses Musicales du Canada Foundation)
  • Jason Kangsan Lee, Piano, Mississauga (Ontario)
    $2,000 Scholarship (Yamaha)

Grand Prize in the 15 to 18 years old category

  • Nicole Li, Violin, Toronto (Ontario)
    $1,500 Scholarship (Jeunesses Musicales du Canada Foundation)

Grand Prize in the 11 to 14 years old category

  • Stephen Nguyen, Piano, Calgary (Alberta)
    $1,000 Scholarship (Jeunesses Musicales du Canada Foundation)

Grand Prize in the 7 to 10 years old category

  • Tiffany Yeung, Violin Richmond Hill (Ontario)
    $500 Scholarship (Jeunesses Musicales du Canada Foundation)

More than $32,000 in scholarships were awarded to the national finalists. The regional, provincial, and national scholarships in 2011 totalled over $100,000.

This year, 579 young musicians from eight provinces participated in the CMC regional and provincial rounds. Of this number, 434 obtained the necessary marks to advance to their respective Provincial Finals, and 218 candidates advanced to the National Final which took place from June 20 to July 5, 2011, at Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

The CMC National Office would like to offer special thanks to all the Montréal Chapter volunteers, who made hosting the 2011 National Final possible. Thanks also to all of our artistic and financial partners, who contributed so much to the success of the 2011 CMC.
