The Canadian Music Competition is pleased to present the 2014 Stepping Stone Gala concert featuring the three grand prize winners of the Stepping Stone Competition, along with the CMC Stepping Stone Quintet. The winners of the 2014 Stepping Stone will be announced at 8 pm right before the beginning of the concert. The Stepping Stone Competition is the prestigious, elite-level classical music competition that helps propel top talent onto the world stage. The CMC Stepping Stone Quintet includes the following exceptional performers: Dr. Michael Berkovsky (piano), Alexander Volkov (violin, 2013 CMC Grand Prize winner), Sonia Shklarov (violin, 2006 CMC finalist), Andrew Ascenzo (cello, CMC competitor) and Keith Hamm (currently principle viola at COC).

From May 21 to 29, musicians will compete in Toronto for a grand prize of $10,000 offered by Canimex — major sponsor of the 2014 CMC and Stepping Stone -, a three-week residency at the Banff Centre and a chance to perform with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec at the competition’s July 5 National Gala concert in Quebec City. In addition to the $10,000 grand prize, the Stepping Stone also offers a second prize of $5,000 offered by Yamaha, long-time partner of the CMC, a third prize of $2,500 and a prize of $1,000 for the best interpretation of a Canadian composition. The remaining finalists will receive $1,000 each.
